Third Don Crossing

This post is as close to home as it gets, and will mean absolutely nothing to anyone outside of Aberdeen, and although it's probably 20 years too late, the Third Don Crossing is finally open, so we went to check it out. There's not much to say about it to be honest, there's still quite a bit of development to go, but the main bridge is open, so at least that's something.

Fowlsheugh

In our quest for puffins, and our mild success of spotting two puffins at Bullers of Buchan, we headed out to Fowlsheugh, which is a coastal nature reserve just south of Stonehaven, and is well known for it's high cliffs and the thousands and thousands of seabirds which nest here.

If you're lucky enough to find a space to park in the car park, then before you head through the obvious trail to the cliffs, be sure to head just down the road past the houses to check out some of the smaller cliffs and also the small waterfall.

After checking out the waterfall, and annoying some guys who were fishing, we headed back up the hill, through a gate, and started walking along the cliffs.

If you can't bare the smell and the noise of the thousands of birds, or the height of the cliffs, then maybe it isn't the place for you, but if you're here to spot some puffins and love playing Where's Wally?, then this is definitely the place for you!

We walked all the way along the cliff trail until the end, stopping wherever we could to try and catch a glimpse of puffins, but sadly, no joy.

We had been sat in the same spot at the cliff edge at the end of the trail for about half an hour or so, when I started to pack up my things and Emma somehow managed to spot some orange amongst the birds on the cliff, and rightly so, a puffin!

Here it is in all it's glory!

Sole Bloc

Last August, the people of Scotland descended on the SWG3 venue in the West End of Glasgow for Sole Bloc, Scotland's first ever sneaker festival, and for Summer 2016, Sole Bloc was back for it's second event, and it was sure to be even better than the last one.

DSC_9902

You'll have to forgive me though, as I had absolutely zero work commitments for a change, so the photos are few and far between, but if you're ever in doubt about attending, hopefully the small selection of images below will be enough to convince you to go! Also be sure to check out my write up from last year's event here.

Now it may not be the biggest event in comparison to others in the UK, or have the widest selection of sneakers, and what not, but I'll tell you one thing, you will NOT find a better atmosphere at another sneaker event than you will at Sole Bloc.

Nothing better than being able to attend a sneaker event to hang out with your mates, grab a beer, and chat sneakers and everything else. Shout out to the guys involved with Sole Bloc for giving us an event to do that at, legends.

Puffins at Bullers of Buchan

Last October myself and Emma took a drive to Bullers of Buchan which is just north of Aberdeen, and learned that this was actually a good spot to see puffins when they are nesting, however, with it being October, we were a little out of season. In the post I wrote back in October, which you can check out here, we said we'd be back, and that's exactly what we done last Sunday.

We headed out to the car park which is just off the main road near Bullers of Buchan, and made our way down to the collapsed sea cave and surrounding area. As we neared, the noise from the birds was crazy, and there were literally thousands of them nesting all around.

We spent some time wandering around the top of the sea cave, making sure we were scouring the walls of the cave to see if we could spot any puffins. I think we probably spent around an hour and a half looking, but sadly couldn't see any.

There was one last spot we wanted to check out though, so we headed back in the direction of the path to the car park, and headed up and round to the right where there is a path which leads around the side of the cliff. Plenty more birds were nesting around here also, but sadly, there were no signs of any puffins...

Just as we were getting ready to leave, I caught a glimpse of some orange on a bird flying off the side of the cliff, and rightly so... a PUFFIN! We waited for a few minutes to see if it returned to the same spot, and we were in luck as two appeared back to the exact same spot on the side of the cliff.

There were a little far away so we spent some time trying to get a couple decent images of them, and then we headed back home. We'll be back next month though when hopefully more have arrived, so be prepared for a post filled with puffins!

New Balance Museum - Sneakerness Warsaw

teaser As many of you know, Sneakerness travels all across Europe from city to city to put on events, and they never fail to have something special on show. Amidst all the trainers for sale, and brand showcases, the team at New Balance Poland and Suede&Mesh put together a one of a kind New Balance Museum.

The New Balance Museum showcased the history of New Balance, with more than 80 vintage pairs on show, starting with the first ever official New Balance running shoe - The Trackster.

With pairs donated from the Suede&Mesh crews own collection, along with those of renowned collectors Tiago Escada Ramos and Mike Sekinger, the vintage selection on show was nothing short of incredible, and they ranged from 1967 all the way through to 1999, pieces of history indeed.

The picture above shows the very first New Balance models from 1967 on the left hand side with the famous New Balance Trackster.

Along with the stunning selection of vintage pairs, the current UK Made and USA Made collection was on show, and displayed in furniture which was created especially for the Museum.

Some of the recent favourites, such as the New Balance 997PR, 998MD, and of course the upcoming Flimby 1500 Gentleman's Choice Pack were displayed.

It is unheard of to have such a vast collection of vintage pieces all on display in the one place, so this was an extremely rare exhibition, and quite possibly the first in history. Let's hope we see more of this sort of stuff in years to come.

Furthermore, Flimby in the UK pride themselves on craftmanship, and all their pairs are hand made in that historic factory in Cumbria. This year was the anniversary of one of Flimby's most popular models, the 577, and the Museum featured a wall which detailed the stages of creating the 577ANN, from all the pieces of panelling, right up to the complete production shoe.

The whole exhibition was finished off with a special Flimby movie presented on the wall, a truly excellent exhibition and something that everyone should be able to check out.
