hanon shop x Diadora Borg Elite "The Spirit of '83"

It feels like it's been a while since hanon shop of Aberdeen released a collaboration, but this October, they're back, and are collaborating with Italian sports brand Diadora to present "The Spirit of '83".

"The Spirit of '83" is a tribute to Aberdeen Football Club and it's finest moment in 1983, when on a rainy night in Sweden, a group of eleven Scottish players won the European Cup Winners Cup led by then, upcoming manager Alex Ferguson. Overcoming Bayern Munich en route to the final in Gothenburg, the team saw off Spanish giants Real Madrid to secure the club's first ever european trophy.

Paying tribute to AFC's historic achievement, hanon shop have worked with Diadora on a special edition Made in Italy sneaker. The silhouette of choice is the Borg Elite, a classic tennis shoe of the era, and one time signature model of court legend Bjorn Borg. Hand crafted at Diadora's original factory in the small town of Caerano Di San Marco, the shoe features a premium upper of buttery soft suede and kangaroo leather.

To represent the colours worn on the night of the Final, our hanon shop edition of the Borg Elite is finished in an Aberdeen fire-red with white accents and tonal side stripe. A lux pin stripe collar lining reflects the original tops worn by the players and 83 is embroidered on the right heel to identify the famous year.

Working closely with the original Italian factory allowed us to utilise the same premium material treatments as Diadora once applied to their legendary court shoes and football boots during the '80's. We have specced the shoe up as much possible and included a laminated kangaroo leather tongue with a plush backer, as well as a double layered stitched leather insole. Dual branding features throughout - embossed and printed on each back tab and tongue, whilst our Keeps On Burning fire emblem and 83 are detailed on opposing heels.

"The Spirit Of 83" Borg Elite will be sold exclusively in Europe by hanon shop on the 10th of October. A small amount of stock will be offered to select doors in Japan and the USA. Each pair will come with a special edition customised 83 box dust bag and dual lace set.

New Balance and Celtic FC Kit Launch

Many years ago, New Balance gear was seen regularly on the football field, and footballing greats such as Bryan Robson wore New Balance boots, but 2015 was to be the year that the brand would take a giant leap back into the footballing world. First, New Balance announced that they would be sponsoring a number of players, including Tim Cahill, Vincent Kompany, Alvaro Negredo, Adnan Januzaj, Aaron Ramsey, Fernando Reges, Marouane Fellaini, and Samir Nasri. Secondly, they announced that they would be kit suppliers for the following teams, Liverpool FC, Celtic FC, FC Porto, Sevilla FC, Stoke City FC, the Panama National Team and the Costa Rica National Team.

If you watch football regularly, you may have spotted various pairs of New Balance boots being worn by some of the afore mentioned players, but I'll bring you a post all about the boots at a later date.

Anyway, the Celtic FC kit was to be launched on the 4th of May 2015 at Celtic Park, so being that I support Celtic FC and New Balance as a brand, it was a no brainer, and I made the journey south for the event.

The event kicked off with a question and answer session with John Collins and John Kennedy who were wearing some NB training gear. Following this was the unveiling of the new home kit with a few players from the men's first team, and a couple from the ladies' first team, followed by a brief question and answer session with regards to the players' thoughts on the new kit.
